"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH", say MISSOURI VOTERS REGARDING MORE CASINOS
CHESTERFIELD, MO, August 4, 2004 Ð In a letter sent to the Missouri Gaming Commission today, Casino Watch Chairman, Mark Andrews, points to yesterday's vote of the people in Missouri as a referendum against more casinos in the Show Me State.
Particularly in St. Louis County and Jefferson County where the NO votes were the highest in the entire State, Andrews emphasized that "Casino expansion here is not wanted and should not be promoted by the Gaming Commission."
Currently there are five proposals being considered by the Gaming Commission for new casinos in St. Louis County and Jefferson County. The Gaming Commission has labeled these areas as "underserved" by the casino industry. Casino Watch makes the point that the voters have finally had a chance to sound off on "casino expansion" and the results are clear: No more casinos, please! Especially not in St. Louis County or Jefferson County.
The Missouri Gaming Commission has said in the past that they never want to license a casino operation in an area where the people do not want it. With 60% of St. Louis County voters and 58% of Jefferson County voters saying "NO" yesterday, Casino Watch asks the Commission for a moratorium on any new casino expansion here.
