Shocked by our St. Louis County Council's, June 29th 5-2 decision to create more gambling addicts to raise money without a vote of the people, our community rallied to action. Adding insult to injury Ordinance 21,908 states this decision is to promote the public health, safety and general welfare of St. Louis County.

In ten short days, 800 signatures were gathered and presented to the County Council to delay the Ordinance giving Pinnacle Entertainment the green light for a new Lemay casino. On July 21st the Election Board verified these signatures giving our community 40 days (from the Ordinance date) to collect over 25,000 signatures by petition to put a proposal on the November 2nd ballot allowing the voters to decide whether or not we want to trade a few new jobs and a "cut of the take" for a lifetime of crime and family addiction in our County.

Our community did not wait for the verification, having already formed a new campaign organization "NO MORE COUNTY CASINOS, INC." to gather the necessary signatures for a vote of the people.

If these petitions are to qualify for the November ballot, they must be turned in to the County Election Board by August 23, 2004 and we must have the required number of signatures from each of the seven County Council districts.
